At first glance, places may appear static, but views change constantly, imperceptibly perhaps or dramatically. You can drive along a scenic road, glimpse a breathtaking moment, pull over for the quick shot, and move on. But if you hang around a bit, the scene changes—maybe the moment passes, lost forever, or just maybe something more incredible emerges. This is true whether the vision is a building, a landscape, or people or animals that represent a place. Each photograph captures moments when a place reveals a story that might otherwise pass unseen.

Steeple in Autumn and Hope
Near dawn I set up my camera and tripod and aimed at a church steeple across a still pond. The chill in the autumn air nipped at my cheeks and fingertips. All was still except the mist that slinked about like a cat, shrouding the church. Then the steeple peeked through, and a reflection appeared in the pond, only to vanish and then gradually reappear. I took the shot, one of several, as the image shifted with the changes in mist and light.
A few steps to my left the entire scene and mood changed. Gone was the steeple. Through thick fog, emerged a large cluster of vibrant autumnal colors. Hopefully, every image tells a story that exists not just in the scene, or the photographer’s vision, but also in the mind and heart of the viewer. This photograph hangs in my office waiting room.
A woman, who had been gazing at it for some time, said to me; “So much mystery and uncertainty…and yet, pushing through the chaos…such beauty! It inspires me. It gives me hope. You should call it Hope.”
